edition 20, Montreal Fashion Week

February 7, 2011 begins the 20th edition of Montreal Fashion Week marking a milestone as the organization that houses designers, buyers, media members and fashion enthusiasts, will present one month prior to past seasons. In an effort to coin Montreal as a true fashion capital, for four days MFW20 will kick-off the Fall/Winter 2011.2012 season in North America!

The crowd faves are returning such as Denis Gagnon , Marie Saint Pierre, Barila (also presenting their special creations for the opera show Werther), Nadya Toto and Bodybag by Jude.

Two of La Collection's designers Anomal Couture and CLUC Couture will also show their latest designs.

I'm especially delighted to attended my friend darling designer Vickie Joseph showing, for the first time on the MFW catwalks, her line !Nu.I

Note to self - leave heels behind as indicated for the Harricana presentation at spa BotaBota!

Next week will be a whirlwind of lights, camera, fashion and I simply can't wait!
Stay tune as the excitement begins on the upcoming posts...

SO FRESH: H.A.M. album cover

Kanye West and Jay-Z's album cover for single H.A.M. (explicitly standing for hard as a mutha*bleep) was designed by Givenchy creative director Riccardo Tisci. Stylize as his own designs for the French House, Tisci created H.A.M. symmetrical artwork rocked with Rotweilers and crowns.
West, a friend and fan of Tisci, wore a Givenchy embellished gold studded Tartan shirt at the "We Are the World: 25 for Haiti".

[WHAT SAY YOU] Yay or nay on the artwork?

411 on Elin Kling for H&M

Blogging is fun. But to turn this creative passion into a lucrative endeavor might be a bit more daunting- but doable.
After collaborating with a slew of luxe designers, H&M opted to create an exclusive collection with Swedish blogger ELIN KLING.
I chatted with H&M's Sweden PR gal Sofia Jegerborn for the why and how of it all.

Why did H&M choose to collaborate with Kling?
We always strive to surprise our customers, and it felt great to do a local collaboration with a Swedish fashion profile like Elin Kling.  We've been wanting to do an interesting project with her as Elin's followers are similar to H&M's target market making it a perfect fit.

Why is the line only available in Sweden?
We decided to present the collection solely in Sweden since Elin is a Swedish fashion blogger and her followers are mostly located in Sweden.

How would you describe the collection?
The collection consists of nine fashion pieces and two accessories, and is a modern, light and minimalistic collection with bohemian influences. The saying “less is more” gets an important meaning. The result is a strong and clear collection, where silhouette and materials are more important than decoration. The details are well considered and discrete, such as the un-even hem on the washed leather-jacket, the hidden chain at the neckline on one of the dresses, and the raw edge on the wide pants. The balance between the hard, tough and sculptural, and the soft, draped and feminine suits both H&M and Elin perfectly.

What item is the must-have?
The leather jacket. It's so Elin!

Does H&M plan on collaborating with other bloggers? Any in North America?
It's too early to say, as long as our customers appreciate our collaborations we will continue to keep them coming!

[WHAT SAY YOU] Which fashion or design brands would you like to collaborate with?

Triptyqu3 presents Funny Games by Denis Gagnon for Style & Conscience

Triptyqu3.com revealed last Thursday their 13th edition titled Funny Games. For this time around the creative portal featured an exclusive Denis Gagnon accessories collection commissioned by socially responsible line Style & Conscience.  A portion of the sales will go to benefit the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Quebec

The evening began with a VIP viewing of the fashion film illustrating this unique collection. Having  previously attended a Triptyqu3 event, I truly appreciate their artistic vision and collaboration with talents from the fashion, design and art world. What's next? Maybe a print version of the webazine!!!

Triptyqu3 Team (left to right)
Roxanne Doucet, Pierre-Marc Gauthier and Rachel Lebeau

Style & Conscience, run by non-profit organization Montreal Couture, mandate was to "re-invent the notion of the Heart and Stroke Foundation" without the use of the habitual big red heart. The mini collection titled I Love U was designed by Denis Gagnon and co-created with a 2.0 twist. This socially conscious endeavor carried a social media presence by inviting the public to voice online their design ideas.

Utilising crowdsourcing, the team came up with a unique and fashionable line comprising of a bag, key chain and a scarf which the latter is offered in white and iconic red.
Lovely touch - the items are named after the voluntereed cardiac surgeon to the Foundation, Dr. Nicolas Noiseux's 8 year olds triplet daughters.

The  STÉPHANIE handbag ($276)

The ALEXANDRA silk scarf ($100)

The AMÉLIE key chain ($32)

The collection is available to purchase until March 6, 2011.
Visit  the Style & Conscience site for more details.

SO FRESH: Chloë Sevigny for Opening Ceremony

Chloë Sevigny for Opening Ceremony has launched her fifth collection. The 90's inspired line, echoes the grunge esthetic's of  KIDS the cultural film where Sevigny's was accredited for getting her acting chops. On that note, whatever happened to Telly??

Besides crop tops, plateforms and too-cool-for-school shades, the Spring/Summer '11 collection offers five whimsy dresses in five classic prints named after her friends who inspired the silhouettes.

(left to right: The Lissy boxy swing dress in leopard, The Winnie sailor baby doll in polka dot )

(The Alanna fitted jersey dress in houndstooth)

(The Sophie puff sleeve dress in paisley, The Lesley peter pan collar flared dress w/lace in houndstooth)

Check out the commercial directed by Spike Jonze for launch of  Chloë Sevigny for Open Ceremony during a meet-and-greet held at the OC NY store.

[WANNA KNOW: What do you think of Chloë Sevigny for Opening Ceremony collection? A great collaboration with a true visionaire from an actress cum designer OR just another celeb line?]

On that, I'm off to listen to the Reality Bites soundtrack!

Friday Night Lights @ Le Piano Rouge

Last Friday I jazzed it up at charming hub for music lovers LE PIANO ROUGE. My beautiful friend Jennifer Silencieux and her beau Islove Francis were singing their hearts out and I was luving it- live music speaks to my soul!

I don't go out much. But when I do, with my cam in tow, I can't help but be trigger happy and snapp away!!

I heart NIKO paintings.

Not just a gimmick, there is really a red piano!

I heart CORNO paintings.
