Review of Jeanne Beker's "Finding Myself in Fashion" + Giveaway

We should all adhere to the motto “Don’t be afraid, and never give up!” Quite fitting as I’ve adopted it from my idol, Canadian face of fashion, Jeanne Beker whom I’ve had the amazing opportunity to interview for the second time this year, thank you very much!

Looking gracious and gorgeous dressed in classic black and towering in pretty platforms, our meet was over her sixth book and second autobiography titled Finding Myself in Fashion. I for one love to read, so it was no surprise when I avidly devoured her candid and poignant story of a woman “set out to live a life that was not just great but extraordinary”. Make no mistake, it’s beyond the gloss of bubbles swinging and air-kissing.

In her continuous effort of democratizing the lofty world of fashion, she humbly shares her heartfelt moments that took stage on and off screen. We discover a real woman, akin to you and I, faced with her own set of trials and tribulations; she is honest in her count of her 18-year marriage split, proves bravado by holding helm as sole Fashion Television host and plenty of gusto balancing her remarkable life.

Often admired for her fearlessness in the fashion foray, she attributes her own tenacious drive to her beloved Holocaust-survivor parents reflected in the chapter “Survival Mode”.
Journalist, business woman and mother of two, Jeanne Beker has much to be “proud as punch” as she recurrently expresses.

Cool Chic Cocktails at Phillips Lounge

With warm weather finally with us, brings an undeniable urge to forgo hermit life and festively socialize in hip and happening hubbubs. If you haven't done so already, you should definitely visit PHILLIPS LOUNGE which in my opinion is Montreal's best kept secret. A resto lounge like no other where you can indulge in delicious mealssavor stylish cocktails all the while admire alluring artwork. Oh and the service is impeccable. With the owner Claude Foussard - he also runs Restaurant Julien next door - gallantly greeting guest for lunch.

Earlier this month, PHILLIPS LOUNGE hosted a cocktail event where drinks of choice were a special 2 for 1. Thankfully the rain didn't detour everyone and we had a lovely time.

My drink of choice was the Cosmos of course!
All smiles from Sana and Monica!Marjorie and Lindsay (Lavender Blonde blogger) looking very pretty!  Great minds think alike. With stripes being In Fashion this season, Marjorie, Lindsay and Miss SLY get it right!

Tossing Salad at Phillips Lounge!

Did you know that the month of May is NATIONAL SALAD MONTH? Until recently, neither did I!
Most likely celebrated in Spring as we tend to eat lighter as the weather gets warmer.
Regardless of the time of year, I really enjoy a hearty salad as they aren't only for dire dieters or even strict vegans/vegetarians (though the latter appeals to me as my quest for non-animal by products remains steadily on my bucket list!)

Playing foodie for a day, blogger Marjorie from Marjorie's Closet and myself taste tested PHILLIPS LOUNGE salad menu. We noshed on the resto lounge's savory selection and yum-ed at every bite!
In a classic case of "What type are you?", see which of these fresh and filling plates seem to suit your salad style.

Besides the goat cheese, the combination of sweet cherry tomatoes and rich zesty olives make for delightful bites. Want more punch, flavor the dish with lemon. OPA!

Sometimes called the insalata nizzarda, there are many ways to toss a salade niçoise. The Phillips Lounge recipe comes close to the original as it consists of tuna, eggs, potato, onions, red peppers and cucumbers all on a bed of Romaine lettuce. Love anchovies? Feel free to request them if  they suit your fancy!

Legend has it that an Italian immigrant, Caesar Cardini operating a restaurant in Tijuana created the Caesar Salad one evening while in a hurried midst to create a meal for his guest by tossing left overs found in his kitchen. Many have accused Cardini of stealing the dish's recipe!
With such exciting origins, no wonder it's so good! At Phillips Lounge, the Caeser Salad is well seasoned with a hefty amount of croutons, chicken, bacon bits and the creamy iconic dressing.

THE LANDAISEServed every Thursday on Phillips Lounge table d'hôte, the dish is inspired by a gourmet meal with sumptuous duck, foie gras and fresh green beans.

Opened from Monday to Friday, lunch is served from 11:30 to 2:30. Looking for chic cocktails, the lounge opens from 4pm.

STYLE SPOTTED: Cynthia at Sears Fall'11 presentation

Some outfits are perfectly simple. Infatuated I am by Sears Fashion Director Cynthia's look- it's minimalist, bold and oh so chic. Let's face it, not everyone can pull of a silk jumper and remain looking effortless and stylish. Oh and that lovely pageboy cut! It's straight from the fashion books of "This gal has it going on!"

Boutique Denis Gagnon

Darling Denis, as been dubbed by QC fashion press, officially opened his new Old Montreal boutique yesterday to a plethora of fans and fashionistas. Located next to Soho Gallery, the boutique design is minimalist and modern showcasing the black&white RTW Spring/Summer 2011 collection.

Following his MMFA exhibition, La Maison Denis Gagnon expands into the beauty business with a Lancôme collaboration creating a makeup collection launching August 2011. Gagnon is also contributing to Toronto's Luminato 2011 summer festival with Garden of Roses: Denis Gagnon Interprets Alice.

With news as such, I'm sure I speak for many when I say that I'm so proud that an acclaimed creator and visionary is from Montreal. At the age of when most are thinking of retirement, Denis Gagnon's professional life is taking flight. Lesson learn: Believe and the rest will follow.

View the Facebook album for the official pictures of the opening soirée taken by SEBASTIEN ROY.
