À la Riviera: DUY Spring/Summer 2013

Hello from the Big Apple!
I’m currently in New York attending the IFB 2-day blogging conference held from September 4-5 2012.
Though I’m away during Montreal Fashion Week 23, I couldn't leave my fashion roots behind. A couple of weeks ago I met with Anastasia Lomonova, DUY, and UNTTLD to discover and discuss their upcoming Spring/Summer 2013 collections.
The mere passion alone of these young designers is something to be admired. An artistic bunch of one's-to-watch, their creations are conceptual, creative, and, for lack of a better term, cool.
Here's the second installment in the Montreal In Fashion exclusive interview series.

"My clothes are innovative, but definitely all wearable and full of refinement" Here, here! Some might be put off by Duy Nguyen's assertiveness but none can deny the haute fashion quality of his work. A master tailor, the Vietnamese-born designer is known for precise-cut jackets, fluid draped textures, and an affinity to honouring the female form. His perfectionist nature is regimented with an excellent work ethic. He states to limit his most elaborate work to a two-day labour limit. This remarkable discipline transcends into creations that display an ode to a veteran craftsman.

The Spring/Summer 2013 collection takes on a lyrical journey to the French Riviera. When asked which woman he had in mind while designing the collection, he beams and names Lana Del Rey as muse. Quite fitting since the sultry singer's recent look is more luxe glam than downtown hipster.

The line is a vision of chiffon, crepe, and lace in divine double-cloth cover-ups, metallic embellished culottes, and a skirt with a flattering peplum silhouette recalling last season's hits. Tones of turquoise, pearl, and coral are picture perfect of the Mediterranean lifestyle.

This latest collection is an array of a wearable and effortless wardrobe. Duy's designs are timeless without a doubt, but unique in so many ways. This season he debuts denim creations. True to his signature style, his innovated vision creates knit pieces made from swatches of denim!

Later this fall, the Montreal-based créateur will be returning to his homeland to partake in a fashion show organized by ELLE Vietnam. Great news for a designer that is set on expanding his eponymous brand overseas.
