Montreal In Fashion at Festival Mode et Design de Montréal

For the 12th edition of the Festival Mode et Design de Montréal, Montreal In Fashion will partake in the 5 Blogeurs, 5 Looks show held at McGill College Wednesday, August 1 at 6:15PM.

My fellow blogger friends and I - Duc C. Nguyen, Gaëlle Leroyer, Mélodie Wronski, and Sophie BT - have carte blanche to create a collective fashion show reflecting our personal artistic vision. This is so right up my alley! As you might recall, a year ago I art directed the Nu.I by Vickie S/S2012 presentation. And now, amongst others, I work with a fashion retailer as their creative director and editor for their social media fashion coverage. So needless to say, once I got the call to partake in the Festival, my love for illustrating beauty went into overdrive in coming up with a special theme.

Make, Believe.
A sartorial tale gleamed through the eyes of a faded eccentric, the unlikely style icon, Little Edie. More than an homage, “Make, Believe” explores the idea of this wonderfully nutty, impoverished socialite replacing the decaying Grey Gardens estate and secretly running amok in Mount Stephen Club. Daily costumes of choice are austere styles from the vaults of Montreal designers’ Fall 2012 creations.

A former model and dancer, she was a socialite and cousin to Jackie O. Little Edie and her mother, Big Edie, lived in a crumbling mansion after they became impoverished. A documentary was produced in the 70s called Grey Gardens, the name of the Hamptons estate where they lived. Little Edie had alopecia, hair loss due to stress, so she wore colourful headwraps and had an eccentric sense of style. After the passing of her mother, she moved out of Grey Gardens to pursue her cabaret career. She actually lived in Montreal during the mid 90s to master speaking French!
I would have loved the chance to meet this eccentric and passionate woman. She seems fascinating with a developed sense of style and an off-her-rocker demeanor! The Gaga's and Katy Perry's of this world have nothing on Little Edie.

The show would not be possible without the many Montreal brands and creatives that are helping me bring my vision to fruition. A special thank you to DULCEDO Model Management, SIM Minerals, Kill The Cat music producer, and photographer Amy Lee Corkum.

I can't wait to show you all the beautiful Fall 2012 clothing that I was able to snag from these aMazing Montreal designers:

I'll be giving you a sneak peek next Tuesday on what's to come!
Also, starting next Wednesday, every morning during the Festival, I'll provide you with the must-see shows. So make sure to come back :)

New ALDO Burgundy Bag

I love summer's skin-baring style. But my fashion heart belongs to fall.

Though my inner free-spirit could live happily in a sunny state of short shorts and breezy dresses, the cool autumn months bring a sense of sartorial refinement for a grown-up touch. It's a season that beckons to renew one's wardrobe with the IT colour, accessory, and silhouette.

Spotted in pre-fall editorials is the burgundy colour trend.  A shade that is universally flattering, the rich hue evokes luxe with some good dosage of bad-ass appeal!

I’m loving my new bag du jour from ALDO. The combination of the burgundy colour detailed with a tassel and metallic hardware is golden!

What do you think?

Don’t forget to visit the ALDO Montreal Eaton Centre for your 10% coupon applicable on all products (see all information here). The coupon is valid for a yummy Yeh! treat as well- doesn’t it look mouth-watering?!

What's In Fashion Montreal: Boutique 1861 on St-Laurent

Yesterday was the grand opening for womenswear store Boutique 1861's second location niched on the Main at 3670 St-Laurent Blvd. Montreal In Fashion was invited to the media event that treated attendees to plenty of girly fun.
Decorated in a vintage lover's dream, the airy space of high ceilings is designed in an eggshell, champagne and pastel pink finishing. Très chichi!

The mastermind behind this curated boutique is pint size owner cutie Castle Ho. Having already two other womenswear stores under her fashion belt - coquette Rasberry and streetwear Downstairs - this second 1861 location is a beautiful addition to a vision of catering to "women who love being women and dressing the part."

I must say I was shocked by how reasonable the prices were- spotted tops for $50 and dresses for $65. The collection assortment is akin to visiting your amazingly stylish BFF's closet- you simply want everything! It's an on-trend fashion mix of international and Canadian brands (UK Emily and Finn and Toronto Pink Martini) along with Montreal lines Coccolily and Arti Gogna.

An on-trend Arti Gogna neon peplum topper.

July Style+Beauty Picks

When I first saw the parade of peonies, roses and tropical floral prints on the runways of Spring Summer 2012 catwalks, I was a bit ambivalent about the trend. I'm far from being a wallflower (pun intended) when it comes to dressing. I felt that the look was a bit too demure for my bold self-expression. However the floral-on-floral fashion, seen in many editorials this season, blooms right up my style alley.
Going for glam garden party panache, I paired my fave Jacob floral frock with my latest fave Nu.I by Vickie military inspired floral vest.

Tropical tangerine is my Summer beauty colour. If you see me around, I'm always sporting orange nails and pout!

Jacob belt + dress, you can find an alternative here or here
CND Colour nail polish in #545 Electric Orange ($11.30 retail)
Sephora Collection True Cream Lip Colour in Sunset Rhythm
Make Up For Ever Aqua Lip Waterproof liner in 17C (found at Sephora)
